Who is this course for
|
For those with limited or no previous Chinese language experience, the aim is to strengthen pronunciation and basic language conversation ability.

Teaching Goals
|
Strengthen student pronunciation and tones and allow students to engage in simple conversation such as asking for the time, introducing yourself, setting a time to meet, looking for work, asking for directions, shopping, ordering food, making a phone call. Strengthen student’s ability to understand simple sentences, complete sentence responses, and ability to answer and express yourself in simple terms.

Course Content
|
Chief content includes life topic such as self introduction, family, work and daily life events. The course teaches 800 commonly used characters, 150 basic sentence patterns, and uses Hanyu Pinyin teaching methods and different role-playing exercises regarding daily life conversations and situations in order to build a basic Chinese foundation.

Course Content
|
This course combines life interests and their individual significance. The course discusses commonly encountered situations and circumstances to advance conversation strategy, oral expression ability, and allow students to engage in meaningful discussion. Short text readings about daily life and small group discussion extend to deeper themes and conversations topics. Students use 10 practical expression patterns to gradually advance and cultivate their oral communication ability.

Course Content
|
Every class begins with a supplementary recording and listening practice warm-up. This exercise promotes student’s listening and speaking ability by encouraging students to become familiar with the main points of the listening and then clarify these points. Instruction methods include small-group and cooperative communication studies of realistic topics in order to strengthen oral expression and flexibility and advance and promote spoken communication ability. Teaching materials also relate to daily life and cultural readings, and complement inquiry into different questions and practical topics. These methods aim to encourage student’s confidence in their Chinese ability and relieve student’s language apprehensions and concerns.

For students who have studied Chinese for more than 400 hours. Students will already be able to converse and respond to discussion about daily topics, and aim to strengthen their spoken Chinese ability and expression.

This course focuses on practical spoken and expressional ability; students will have the ability to express themselves in all different types of situations, issue warnings, use persuasion, and recite commands. Students will advance their ability to converse about both specific and abstract content. This course touches on a relatively large number of topics to ensure a solid level of smooth and fluid conversation, full language expression through detailed explanations, clarifying viewpoints and ideas about different choices, advantages, and disadvantages.

Course Content

The chief objective of this course is language functionality; every class studies three different language functionalities, nine sentence pattern expressions, and thorough conversational practice to further student’s understanding of language functionality and practical usage. Instructors use their energy and skilled experience in order to raise questions and guide students to develop their conversation skills. Small-group exercises also strengthen and mature every functionality of applied language. Moreover, short essays and discussion about different topics in the news are also used in classroom discussion in order to give students a clearer understanding of language usage, opportunities and suitability.
